Reblooming Iris Rhizomes

The farmers that supply our bearded irises are a family of growers who have been breeding, cultivating, testing, culling, photographing and falling in love with bearded irises for 30+ years.

This obsession - hard to call it anything else - started innocently enough when an iris grown by the family's patriarch was entered into a local flower show. The bloom did not garner first prize. That was unacceptable.

While most of us might not think of flower farmers as a strongly competitive lot, this fellow was determined not to be outdone again. The missed grasp for the blue ribbon was the spark that started a thriving business. And that same determination has kept the business going through drought, tough times and varied adversity.

Based in the prime agricultural belt of California on a sweepingxxacre property with lush soils and lovely mountain views, this farm family now grows hundreds of varieties of bearded irises, stretching as far as the eye can see. Every shade of the rainbow is well represented here and the color combinations sometimes defy description. Thank heavens for photos!

Visit this farm and you'll be greeted by a big, mixed breed dog that will announce your arrival. The family members here are unassuming and hard working; the type that makes this country all that it is. Like farms all acrossthis one has weathered barns for storing supplies and trusty tractors for digging acre after acre of planting furrows. But unlike most farms, it also has drop dead gorgeous fields filled with fluttery, ruffled blooms that perfume the air with a light, sweet scent that gardeners everywhere associated with irises.

While a trip to this country's most breathtaking iris farm might not be in the cards anytime soon, those fluttery blossoms and that sweet fragrance can be yours. Choose any of the irises here - rebloomers or classics - and know that you're reaping the benefit of three generations of iris knowledge. And at prices that rival those from any other source for comparable quality.
