Calla (New Zealand) Black Star

Calla (New Zealand) Black Star
Looking for stopper plants? You've found them! Black Star callas are tall, with deep purple to black blossoms and black stems. Even the broad foliage is edged in purplish black, veined with the same deep shade and spotted with creamy splashes. This calla is a garden stopper even when not in bloom. With 4 to 8 flowers per big bulb (we'll send a trio for this price) Black Star is a border and pot celebrity of the highest caliber.

Hard to find New Zealand callas are prized for their extra tall, large flowers. A florist's dream these make outstanding, long lasting cut flowers in estate size arrangements. New Zealand callas are superb garden plants in mixed beds and are magnificent in oversized containers. Very limited stock for '09 and odds are slim these will be available in future seasons.

Highlights & Hints
- Callas perform best as "teenagers", buy bulbs that are 2 years old; old enough to have developed to a good size and young enough to still have lots of vigorous shoots.
- Our calla tubers are pretreated for greater flower development (up to twice as many) and improved disease resistance.
