Tulips (species types)

Okay, we admit it. Classic Dutch tulips are beautiful, but they aren't the longest lived garden plants. And in warm climates, well frankly, there are better options. For tulips that you plant once and enjoy for many, many years, even in zones as warm as 9, choose species tulips.

These tulips are just as Mother Nature created them, with smaller flowers that burst forth in rich colors as the spring days warm and lengthen. All will bloom freely for many years without any special attention and will even naturalize in settings that they like. Provide some early season sunshine and well drained soil for displays that will sing next spring and beyond.
