Fall Planted Gardening Guides

Want an abundance of spring color? Many spring blooming bulbs and hardy perennials are dormant in the fall, which makes this the ideal time to add them to your garden. This is particularly true for tulips, hyacinths and many types of daffodils which require a chilling period to allow them to prepare for their spectacular spring displays. And for gardeners in warm areas of the country (zones 9-10) we offer a wide range of bulbs that are particular well suited for fall planting, such as Ranunculus, Watsonia, Oxalis, Babiana, Sparaxis and Tritonia.

Indoor Forcing

If the temperatures have cooled outside, there's no need to despair. You can still enjoy big pots of fresh flowers. Add color and fragrance to your home during the holidays and throughout the winter with indoor forcing bulbs. Flower bulbs such as amaryllis, paperwhites, lily of the valley and oxalis require no chilling and are ideal for sunny windowsills. Indoor potted bulbs also make wonderful gifts because they are such fun to watch develop. And the flowers often last for weeks. Our gifts tab above allows you to see what's in season now for indoor growing.

Spring Planted Gardening Guides

Check here for plants and bulbs that are available in the spring, to tuck into your garden when the soil warms. Though most items here may be planted virtually anywhere in the country early in the season to provide summer and/or fall flowers, only those that are winter hardy in your region can relied on to come back year after year. These are referred to as hardy perennials. Check the information on each product page for hardiness zone information to see if it includes your zone. Need to know what zone you live in? Just enter your zip code in the box to the right.
