Flaring about this central bloom is a wide modified leaf or spathe, heavily spotted in pink and green outside, a deep rosy blush within. Each morning, a delicate odor of rotting flesh wafts on the breeze, to lure pollinators, in the form of flies to its exotic feast. The odor passes quickly, but the bloom remains tall and flamboyant for weeks on end, to be followed by a tall canopy of palm-like foliage that spreads its leaves above the flower. Bourne upon a single mottled stem, the leaf branches bear bulbils - baby bulbs that dry up in the fall and drop to the ground to re-populate the mother plant. This unusual specimen can be yours with some care taken to reproduce its native conditions.
